Evolving Narrative
[ send me this paper ]
This 7 page paper discusses different themes beginning with a brief discussion of whether the work of Freud and Neitzche are coherent with anthropology or myth. The symbolism in Ibsen's A Doll House is then explored. Finally, four novels, Heart of Darkness, Madam Bovary, Tristram Shandy and Scarlet and Black are used to demonstrate how narrative has changed over the years.

Fathers and Sons: Ivan Sergeevich Turgenev.
[ send me this paper ]
(5 pp) This 1862 novel caused great upset upon its original publication in Russia, but it is still being read today because of the universal insights it gives into human relationships and the nature of change. We might ask ourselves if the major characters presented are realistic to us, but it is good to remember the age of the novel, and be aware that was realistic then -and it was certainly considered such at the time -may not seem that way today. This discussion will examine the strength of characters presented.

Goodfellas/Scorsese's Use of Sound
[ send me this paper ]
A 4 page research paper/essay that analyzes the use of sound in this film. Director Martin Scorsese's 1990 film Goodfellas (produced by Irwin Winkler; released by Warner Brothers) focuses on life is like as a member of the Mafia. Based on the real-life biography of gangster Henry Hill (Ray Liotta), the movie chronicles Henry's life and the attraction of a life of crime, the illusion of glamour, of being a "somebody." While numerous cinematic elements combine to make this film compelling, one of the features that adds to the nuance and feel of the narrative is the director's use of sound. Examination of this element demonstrates how various aspects of sound can affect the characterization and substantiate the director's storytelling goals. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Humbert / Pedophilia Is A Control Issue
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Building a case that proves pedophiliac compulsions are nothing more than issues of control is an especially clear-cut task with relation to Lolita's Humbert Humbert. While it can be argued that there is a significant connection to Humbert's alleged sexual encounters with his uncle that ultimately led him to seek sexual gratification from young girls, it can also be just as easily proven that he is fully capable of restraining such behavior if he so chooses. The writer addresses the fact that while Humbert's pedophiliac tendencies may have stemmed from his own childhood abuse, it is in no way a defense for inflicting such out of control abuse upon others. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
