Deism And The French Enlightenment
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. The extent to which organized religion is nothing more than a crutch for those who are without the intestinal fortitude to stand on their own two spiritual feet is both grand and far-reaching; that Deism restores one's sense of reason, nature and self-ability beyond the puppeteering inherent to organized religion speaks to the belief that people are not empty spiritual vessels waiting to be filled with erroneous 'truths' and misconstrued convictions. While the fundamental core of Deism revolves around the existence of one unified God or supreme being, it denounces the conventional tenets of faith that have wholly derailed organized religion. In short, Deists are provided the indulgence to discern for themselves the vast and various elements associated with man, his universe and all that is spiritual without being dictated to or conditioned into believing certain ideals (such as Hell, damnation, predestination, original sin) so prevalent within the stringent boundaries of structured religion, a particularly pertinent point when it comes to the radical changes that occurred during the French Enlightenment. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Diane Eck Does Not Make A Convincing Argument For Pluralism In Her Book "Encountering God"
[ send me this paper ]
10 pages in length. On the surface of Diane L. Eck's Encountering God: A Spiritual Journey from Bozeman to Banaras, one might readily surmise how the author possesses an accurate understanding of religious presence in today's multicultural society; however, upon closer inspection, Eck claims there has been an epiphany where religious pluralism is concerned that is a self-evident reality when one simply looks at how members of such otherwise opposing faiths as Muslim, Catholicism and Judaism are now more tolerant and welcoming of one another than ever before. One cannot be sure one is seeing the same global community as what Eck perceives, inasmuch as the only "isms" that truly exist with regard to the quest for religious tolerance are fanaticism, individualism and nationalism, which leaves little if any room for a modicum of pluralism. Given that the two most critical components of religious pluralism are respect and tolerance, it is hard to understand how Eck can purport the up-and-coming presence of a pluralistic society when right at this very moment America is being viciously attacked by those who live, eat and prosper on her very soil. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
