A Critique of a Research Approach to Measuring Anger in Children
[ send me this paper ]
A 13 page critique of the research conducted by A.J. Finch Jr. and Edward S. Eastman and published in the Journal of Psychology in 1983. Using a sample base of thirty-eight children (twenty-eight boys and ten girls) at the point of admission as patients at the Virginia Treatment Center (a short-term psychiatric hospital for children), the researchers delineate a significant relationship between the child’s own perception of their anger (as obtained through self reports) and reports of their behavior provided by peers at the time of admission. This paper concludes that there are many inadequacies in this research. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

ADD And ADHD: Caused By Society
[ send me this paper ]
4 pages in length. Homework. Extended class time. Shorter recess. Staying still in seats. Too much quiet time. Chores at home. Overstimulating media. It is no wonder today's children are routinely being misdiagnosed with ADD and ADHD when the only problem they have is the behavior forced upon them by parents, teachers and society in general. With today's push toward higher education at an earlier age (some mothers start teaching the fetus in the womb); the highly stimulating effect of contemporary movies, television programs and advertising; and the rush of family life, kids are no longer allowed to just be kids. Adapting to such a frenetic lifestyle has made it more and more difficult for children to harness their natural born energy without proper release, ultimately causing them to 'act out.' Add in the overabundance of refined sugar, and the child cannot help but jump out of his skin. Parents and teachers fail to realize how children are compelled to live within socially mandated confines wholly unsuited for their young and active beings; today's unnatural focus on the coupling of overstimulation and incapacity to let off steam is the reason why children are being misdiagnosed with ADD and ADHD. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
