Anorexia Nervosa: Definition, Those Affected, Symptoms, Physical and Psychological Effects, and Treatments
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 10 page paper discussing all the aspects of anorexia nervosa. Anorexia nervosa is a eating disorder which is a considered the refusal by an individual to maintain normal body weight but instead loses weight either by diet, exercise or purging with an attempt to obtain an ideal body weight; however, the individual never has the perception of reaching that ideal weight. Anorexia causes severe physical damage and in many cases may result in death. The largest portion of the population affected by anorexia is teenage girls and if untreated can lead to a 20% morality rate. Treatment of the disease decreases the mortality rate to 1 to 2% but treatment is a difficult and long process. While 60% of those treated enjoy a full recovery, 20% continue with the disease and the other 20% relapse back into the disease. Treatments proven to be the most successful are those which combine elements of hospitalization, psychological counseling on individual, group, family and support levels and some pharmacological treatments to decrease depression. A 9 page paper discussing how work experience can affect adolescent workers. In many developed nations, adolescents choose to work at wage-earning jobs to contribute to further education, the ability to have a higher level of discretionary funds available or even to support a young family that may or may not have been planned. Youth workers can have a wide variety of reasons for working at wage-earning jobs, which in turn provide significant learning opportunities. The youth worker finds opportunity not only to learn skills to build on, s/he also has the opportunity to learn much about himself and to more closely define the individual that s/he is. The paper explores Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and Erikson’s expansion on it to determine that it is the third level, that of belonging, that can be of greatest obvious beneficial effect for teens. Behavior Modification Approach To Anger Management
[ send me this paper ]
10 pages in length. The objective of behavior therapy is to first assess and then treat mental problems that cause people to act abnormally. The current consensus among mental health professionals is that behaviors causing distress or prevent normal functioning in daily life are considered abnormal. There is a social standard by which all members are expected to abide; however, when an individual shows a propensity for straying from that social norm, behavior therapy theories are more than likely applied to determine the problem's origin and ultimate treatment. There exist myriad influences that can prompt a person into sidestepping what is considered to be normal behavior, including mental disorders, physical diseases and stress-related issues. Findings indicate successful treatment outcome and maintenance for families with aggressive youths through peer group therapy, which has proven instrumental in establishing a basic foundation of trust and understanding. This particular approach provides services within a therapeutic environment, offering the least restrictive treatment possible, while at the same time promoting the safety and well being of all treatment members. Bibliography lists 9 sources.
